International Exhibition "Magna Mater between Rome and Zama" to be Held at the Bardo National Museum

As part of the strengthening of cultural cooperation between Tunisia and Italy, the Bardo National Museum will host the international exhibition "Magna Mater between Rome and Zama" in January 2026, highlighting the archaeological treasure of Zama Regia, a historic site located in the governorate of Siliana.

Exhibition Overview

The exhibition will feature 30 major archaeological pieces, restored in Rome using the latest technologies, with the participation of Tunisian researchers. These artifacts illustrate the cult of the goddess Magna Mater, also known as Sibylle or Cybèle, a symbol of protection and renewal in ancient Rome.

Previous Presentation

Before arriving in Tunis, the exhibition was presented at the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum in Rome from June 6 to November 5, 2025. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the history and cult of Magna Mater, officially adopted in Rome in 204 BC.

Organization and Goals

Organized jointly by the Tunisian National Heritage Institute and the Italian Ministry of Culture, this retrospective aims to strengthen cultural exchanges between Tunisia and Italy, enhancing their shared heritage and collaborative archaeological research.
