Ministry of Health Announces Measures to Develop Reproductive Medicine and Improve Access to Assisted Reproduction Services
The Ministry of Health has announced a set of measures aimed at developing reproductive medicine and bringing assisted reproduction services (ARS) closer to citizens. This initiative is part of a broader policy to support reproductive health and ensure equal access to care across the country.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Mustapha Ferjani, met on Monday, February 16, 2026, with members of the National Commission for Reproductive Medicine and representatives of the medical and technical teams concerned to follow up on the progress of projects and accelerate the development of ARS services. He emphasized the need to quickly operationalize the reproductive medicine units at Hédi Chaker University Hospital in Sfax and Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Monastir.
These new units will provide specialized care of quality close to citizens, while reducing waiting times and travel for patients wishing to benefit from fertility treatments. The ministry specified that this reform aims to strengthen and equip ARS units with modern equipment conforming to international best practices, improve the quality of services and safety of care pathways, and ensure equal access to treatments between different regions of the country.
It also includes the continuous training of medical and paramedical staff specialized in this field, in order to strengthen local skills and promote excellence in care. At the same time, the minister highlighted the importance of establishing a national electronic register of reproductive medicine, considered a major step in modernizing patient follow-up.
This register will improve continuity of care, provide accurate data to make interventions more effective, and support health planning and decision-making on a scientific basis. These reforms are part of the vision of the President of the Republic, Mr. Kaïs Saïed, who places health justice and universal access to care at the heart of his priorities.
According to the ministry, these initiatives should enable the guarantee of accessible reproductive health for all citizens, while strengthening the capacities of the country's medical and paramedical teams. The development of ARS units and the modernization of electronic monitoring thus constitute significant advances in improving reproductive health services in Tunisia and meeting the growing needs of patients.
