Tunisian Criminal Chamber Delays Corruption Case to March

The specialized criminal chamber handling financial corruption cases, which is part of the Financial Judicial Division in Tunis, has decided to postpone the hearing of a presumed public‑fund embezzlement case involving businessman Hammadi Touil and Belhassen Trabelsi, the brother‑in‑law of former President Zine El‑Abidine Ben Ali, who is currently a fugitive in this matter.

The postponement was ordered after a request submitted by the defense lawyers, according to a judicial source.

This case is part of the series of financial‑corruption investigations pursued by Tunisian courts since the 2011 revolution, targeting alleged misappropriation and damage to public funds.

Reminder: Belhassen Trabelsi has already received several judicial convictions amounting to more than 150 years of imprisonment for offenses that include the diversion of public funds and money‑laundering.
