Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport Cargo Terminal Reopens, Boosting Tunisia's Logistics and Economy

The Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport has officially reopened its cargo terminal, marking a strategic milestone in the development of air freight transport in Tunisia. This relaunch, accompanied by a press visit and a dedicated conference, repositions the airport platform as a key link in the national and regional logistics chain, under the evocative slogan: "Reopened to connect your markets." Now fully operational, the cargo terminal aims to improve the speed, reliability, and efficiency of import and export flows, while meeting the growing demands of international trade. This reopening is part of a broader vision to strengthen the connectivity of national and international markets and support economic recovery, particularly in the central regions.

Air Cargo as a Growth Lever

In her speech, Mélanie Lefebvre, General Manager of TAV Tunisia, emphasized the strategic importance of this event, describing the reopening of the terminal as "a particularly important moment, not only for the airport platform but also for regional and national economic development." She also recalled that this relaunch marks a structuring stage in the transformation of Enfidha-Hammamet Airport, with a clear ambition: to make air freight a true lever of growth and competitiveness for Tunisia. Moreover, for TAV Tunisia, airport development is not limited to passenger transport. "Cargo is today an essential pillar of logistical performance, an accelerator for exports, a facilitator for strategic imports, and a key factor in economic resilience," insisted Lefebvre. The relaunch of the terminal aims to offer Tunisian companies, particularly those in the central region, modern, reliable, and internationally standardized freight solutions.

Institutional Mobilization and Strategic Partnerships

This ambition is based on strong institutional mobilization. In this context, the General Manager of TAV Tunisia welcomed the role of the Central Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CICC), a partner in the event, as well as the constant support of regional and national authorities. The day was also marked by the signing of strategic partnerships with international reference actors, including Express World Group, Cargo Wings Express, and Savino Del Bene, reflecting the trust placed in the Enfidha-Hammamet cargo platform and opening the way for high-value-added collaborations. These agreements aim to develop regular cargo flows, strengthen the region's logistical attractiveness, and position Enfidha-Hammamet as a credible and competitive cargo platform in the Mediterranean. "The relaunch of the terminal is not an end in itself, but the starting point for a new dynamic to be built with all our public and private partners," concluded Lefebvre.

Consultation of 1,500 Enterprises

Taking the floor in turn, Néjib Mellouli, President of the CICC, explained that this reopening is the result of several months of consultation between the Chamber and TAV Tunisia. "Since last July, we have studied the means and procedures to relaunch this service," he indicated, specifying that more than 1,500 companies, including 1,000 exporters, were consulted to identify their needs in terms of air export. These consultations highlighted a real and pressing need, particularly for companies facing maritime transport constraints or a lack of direct air links. The sectors of perishable products, such as seafood and vegetables, as well as the textile sector, are among the main beneficiaries of this relaunch, thanks to the reduction of logistical delays and costs. Equipped with positive and negative cold rooms and significant storage capacities, the terminal is able to meet the requirements of sensitive goods. A first cargo landing indeed took place on the day of the reopening. For Mellouli, this restart will not only strengthen the competitiveness of Tunisian companies but also stimulate the industrial chain, create jobs, and generate positive spin-offs on the entire national economy.
