New Guidelines for Umrah Pilgrims
Ghofrane Sahli, chief of staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs, announced on "Jawhara FM" radio that following periodic meetings between the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, and travel agencies, a new guidance note on Umrah was published on July 28, 2025. During the opening of the fourth Hajj and Umrah Exhibition, Sahli explained that the new conditions require the signing of an "Umrah contract" between the pilgrim and the travel agency, with improved conditions to guarantee the rights of both parties.
Key Developments
- The Ministry, at the initiative of the Minister of Religious Affairs, has prepared a booklet for pilgrims containing important information, similar to a Hajj guide.
- The Ministry has also begun coordinating with the relevant authorities to train Umrah escorts, so they can provide necessary guidance to pilgrims and obtain a recognized certificate.
Consumer Protection
Thouraya Tabbassi, Vice-President of the National Organization for Consumer Protection, confirmed on "Jawhara FM" radio the existence of shortcomings and abuses in the Hajj and Umrah sector. She called on pilgrims to avoid dealing with unauthorized intermediaries and demanded better supervision of the sector, legalization of complaint procedures, and definition of roles and responsibilities.
Improved Regulations
The new guidelines aim to improve the overall experience for Umrah pilgrims, ensuring their rights are protected and providing them with necessary information and support. By introducing a standardized contract and training for escorts, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is taking steps to enhance the quality of services provided to pilgrims.
