Espérance Sportive de Tunis Expresses Strong Indignation Over Recent Volleyball Match Incidents
The Espérance Sportive de Tunis (EST) has expressed its strong indignation following the events that occurred during its last volleyball match against the Étoile Sportive du Sahel (ESS) in the national championship.
According to a statement released on Sunday, these incidents put the physical integrity of the players at risk and raised serious questions about the fairness and neutrality of the match. The club reports that one of its players, Mohamed Ben Youssef, was seriously injured during the fourth set, with the score at 20-19 in favor of Espérance, requiring his immediate transportation to the hospital for medical care.
Projectiles were thrown onto the field by some opposing supporters, forcing security forces to intervene and the players to take refuge in the locker rooms. The end of the match was also disputed, with the Espérance captain not being summoned and the club's reserve not being recorded on the match sheet in Arabic, which is a violation of official procedures.
In addition to these incidents, the club criticizes controversial nominations: a referee who has not officiated in two years and a match supervisor who has chaired the volleyball section of the opposing team. These choices have raised serious doubts about the impartiality of the match.
The club's management has called for a rapid and transparent investigation to determine responsibilities and apply regulatory sanctions, while affirming that Espérance reserves the right to take all necessary legal and sporting actions to protect its interests.
