Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fishing Orders Inspection Mission
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fishing has ordered the opening of an inspection mission concerning the ministerial decree of April 7, 2025, related to the benefits from fishing and fattening of bluefin tuna.
Background
This announcement follows the Ministry of Agriculture's response to a written question submitted by 36 deputies in May. In its response addressed to the parliamentarians on October 2, 2025, the Ministry also indicated that it is currently examining the possibility of revising the decree in question.
Key Issue
The main question from the deputies concerned the application of Article 17 of the Finance Law, which provides for the allocation of tax revenues generated by this sector to the benefit of small-scale fishermen. They believe that the ministerial decree contravenes the provisions of the 2024 Finance Law.
Ministry's Response
However, in its response, the Ministry deemed the application of this article impossible because it stipulates the granting of subsidies to fishermen affected by bluefin tuna. According to the response, "this requires a scientific determination of the damages and their impact on the sector, if such damages exist."
Next Steps
The Ministry's decision to open an inspection mission and potentially revise the decree is a significant development in this matter. The outcome of the inspection mission and any subsequent revisions to the decree will be closely watched by stakeholders in the fishing industry.
