Lunar Crescent Observation Not Possible on February 17, 2026
The observation of the lunar crescent announcing the beginning of the month of Ramadan will not be possible tomorrow, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, according to the City of Sciences. The head of the Space and Universe department, Sarra Snoussi, explained that astronomical conditions do not allow for the visibility of the lunar crescent. This impossibility is due, in particular, to the schedules of sunset and moonset, as well as the very short duration of the moon's presence above the horizon. Based on astronomical calculations, Thursday, February 19, 2026, would correspond to the first day of the month of Ramadan from a scientific point of view, she specified. However, the official noted that astronomical data remains indicative and that the Diwan of Ifta remains the sole official authority authorized to announce the dates of the beginning of religious months, as well as those of religious holidays and events in Tunisia.
