Tunisia Records a New Stroke Every Half Hour and a Death Every Two Hours

Tunisia records a new stroke every half hour and a death every two hours due to the same disease, according to Professor of Neurology, Amina Gargouri, who revealed this information on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

Importance of Quick Reaction

During her phone intervention on National Radio, on the occasion of World Stroke Day, Professor Gargouri emphasized the importance of a rapid reaction and heading to the nearest hospital as soon as any stroke symptoms appear, such as mouth deformation, arm heaviness, or visual weakness, which are sudden symptoms. The specialist explained that speed is crucial to save the patient's life, increase the brain's response rate to treatment, and reduce risks and side effects.

Prevention is Key

The speaker highlighted that prevention is a very important element in avoiding strokes and reducing their severity. She called for the need to exercise regularly, follow a balanced diet, abstain from smoking, and consume alcoholic beverages. She affirmed that maintaining a healthy body has a positive impact on the brain and contributes to preserving it.

Challenges and Solutions

The specialist addressed the challenges faced by Tunisia in the field of strokes. She indicated that specialized units for treating this disease have been created in university hospitals and private clinics. She also mentioned the availability of remote treatment for strokes, via two centers: the first in Sfax, which treats patients remotely from Tozeur, and the second in Sousse, which provides remote treatment for individuals affected in Jendouba. She specified that the two specialized units use internationally recognized mechanisms, equipment, and materials.
