Tunisian Private Pharmacy Owners' Union Vice-President Speaks Out

The Vice-President of the Tunisian Syndicate of Private Pharmacy Owners, Malika El Mdir, stated today, Tuesday, that "the suspension of the third-party payment system aims to save the healthcare system and protect the sustainability of private pharmacies and the various components of the pharmaceutical chain, in the absence of concrete solutions and effective guarantees for respecting payment deadlines."

During a phone interview on the radio, El Mdir explained that "pharmacies can no longer bear additional financial burdens and are now facing bankruptcy," emphasizing that "delays in payment are threatening the continuity of pharmacists' supplies from distributors, due to their inability to pay." She specified that "the delay in settling debts has exceeded 180 days and amounts to more than 200 million dinars."

El Mdir indicated that "working sessions were organized with the Ministries of Health and Social Affairs, as well as with the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM), over 3 months ago, but officials have not been able to find solutions to this crisis."
