Local Poultry Production Project to Save State 4 Million Euros Annually

The manager of the interprofessional group of avian and rabbit products, Mahmoud Guennoun, announced on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, that the project for local production of poultry strains will enable the state to save 4 million euros per year. He specified that the cost of this project is estimated at 50 million dinars, with Tunisian financing, and that it will be implemented by Tunisian expertise.

During his appearance on national radio, he added that the project will contribute to reducing the cost of imports by 30%, exerting downward pressure on the cost of producing broiler chickens, and avoiding mortality cases that occur during import operations.

He continued by indicating that the choice was made to implant this project in the governorate of Zaghouan. A plot of state-owned land has been leased and inspected by experts from the General Directorate of Veterinary Health and the company that will provide Tunisia with the required strain for poultry production.

The speaker emphasized the possibility for actors involved in importing poultry strains to participate in the project and engage in capital, noting that the study of files is in its final stages.

Guennoun also mentioned the development of a specification document by the General Directorate of Veterinary Health to ensure that the project meets health requirements. Precautionary measures have also been taken in case of health problems or production malfunctions.
