The Sixth and Final Tugboat, “Kerkouane,” Arrives at La Goulette Port

The sixth and last tugboat of the six acquired by the Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports arrived at La Goulette port on Sunday morning.

According to the Office’s post on its Facebook page, this tugboat is a significant asset for the port, aimed at improving performance indicators and guaranteeing optimal safety conditions for commercial traffic.

  • Total acquisition cost: ≈ 168 million Tunisian dinars (≈ 49.3 million €)
  • Funding: 41 million € provided as a loan by the French Development Agency (AFD)

The investment’s objectives are to:

  1. Renew the tug fleet and ensure smooth entry and exit of vessels while protecting port infrastructure.
  2. Enable rapid interventions when needed, offering assistance, towing, search‑and‑rescue services.
  3. Support the energy and ecological transition and the logistical development of international commercial ships.
  4. Keep operating costs under control and contribute to the overall port system’s efficiency.

The Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports received the first tugboat of this series back in September 2025.
