Tunisian Automotive Market Shows Significant Growth in 2025

The Tunisian automotive market has exhibited a notable progression in 2025, with over 42,000 vehicles registered in the first eight months of the year, compared to 34,470 during the same period in 2024, representing a 22% increase, according to Mehdi Mahjoub, spokesperson for the Chamber of Automotive Dealers.

Positive Trend in the Sector

This growth reflects a positive dynamic in the sector, particularly in the popular car segment, where sales have almost doubled. They increased from 3,678 units at the end of August 2024 to 6,611 units at the same date in 2025. This notable performance testifies to a renewed interest in affordable vehicles.

Increase in Vehicle Registrations

Meanwhile, tourist car registrations rose from 25,000 to 31,000 units, while utility vehicles increased from 9,200 to 10,500. These figures reflect a overall recovery of the sector, supported by the diversity of offerings available on the market.

Competitive Market with Over 50 Brands

"The Tunisian market now has over 50 automotive brands, which strengthens competitiveness among players and drives continuous improvement of services and expansion of distribution networks," Mehdi Mahjoub stated during his intervention on Express FM.

Concerns Over the Parallel Market

However, this dynamic is accompanied by a rise in the parallel market, whose market share increased from 29% in 2024 to 32% in 2025. The number of vehicles sold on the informal market rose from 14,000 to 19,423 units, a progression that raises concerns about regulation and sales traceability.

Stable Prices Despite Inflation

Regarding prices, the spokesperson indicated that the average price of a popular car in Tunisia currently ranges between 29,000 and 35,000 dinars, a price level that remains relatively stable despite inflationary pressures.

Call for Better Regulation

The National Chamber of Dealers calls for better regulation of the parallel market and increased support from public authorities to preserve transparency, service quality, and consumer safety.
