President of the Republic Receives Ministers of Industry and Environment

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received today, Saturday, October 11, Ms. Fatma Thabet Chiboub, Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, as well as Mr. Habib Abid, Minister of Environment.

Instructions for Immediate Action

The Head of State gave instructions for a joint team from the two ministries to be dispatched to the phosphoric acid plant of the Tunisian Chemical Group in Gabès, to repair as soon as possible any damage that needs to be addressed. He specified that he is closely monitoring the situation and that a large number of shortcomings have been observed, both in maintenance and operating procedures - which have caused gas leaks - and in the failure to comply with technical tests required at deadlines set by accredited specialists.

Call for a Global Strategy

The President of the Republic emphasized the need to quickly develop a comprehensive strategy to put an end to these environmental disasters, inspired by the plan proposed by the youth of Gabès over a decade ago.

Zero Tolerance for Negligence

He also stated that no tolerance will be shown to those who have failed in their duties, stressing that it is not a question of making these situations the subject of bidding or instrumentalization, whether from inside or outside. Our fellow citizens of Gabès, like those in all regions of the country, will receive all their rights: they are the true wealth, the protective barrier, and those who will build the new Tunisia as they wish it - a green Tunisia, free from all forms of pollution and polluters.
