Tunis Court Postpones Trial of Former MP Saifeddine Makhlouf to March, Denies Request for Release
The criminal chamber of the First Instance Tribunal of Tunis has decided to defer the hearing of the case involving former deputy of the dissolved Parliament, Saifeddine Makhlouf, to a session scheduled for next March. At the same time, the court rejected his request for release.
- Background: Saifeddine Makhlouf had appealed a default judgment that sentenced him to five years of imprisonment with immediate execution.
- Charges: The same court had previously convicted him on charges of conspiracy against the internal security of the State.
The postponement means the case will be revisited in March, while Makhlouf remains in custody pending the new hearing.
