Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flocked to the Mina site on Monday, May 25, 2026, to perform the "Tarwiyah" day, marking the official start of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. The Saudi authorities announced the deployment of a comprehensive logistical and operational system, declaring themselves fully prepared to ensure the smooth running of this season.
Located east of the holy city of Mecca, the Mina site hosts the world's largest seasonal tent city. According to official data, this complex spans approximately 2.5 million square meters, offering a global capacity that exceeds 2.6 million pilgrims.
For this edition, significant development projects have been implemented to improve the comfort of the faithful. Efforts have focused on extending shaded areas, expanding rest spaces, and optimizing pedestrian routes. Additionally, new modernized accommodations have been built near the stoning of the pillars area (the Jamarats).
In terms of organizational management, crowd control now relies on advanced digital solutions and intelligent surveillance networks to regulate pilgrim flows in real-time between different holy sites.
Prior to the pilgrimage, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah finalized its preparations by training a qualified staff. Over 30,000 agents were prepared to operate on-site technologies, supported by 600 regulatory officials and 5,000 squad leaders mobilized to guide pilgrim groups.
