China's Growing Interest in Investing in Tunisia's Phosphate Sector

In an exclusive interview with La Presse de Tunisie, H.E. Wan Li, China's Ambassador to Tunisia, confirmed the increasing interest of Chinese companies in investing in Tunisia's phosphate sector.

These projects go beyond resource extraction, encompassing an integrated approach covering the entire value chain: phosphate extraction, chemical transformation, phosphoric acid production, and fertilizer manufacturing.

One Chinese company has already submitted an investment proposal in this field, but the project has not yet obtained the necessary authorizations. However, the company has not abandoned its initiative and is considering relaunching its efforts.

The Ambassador emphasized that these projects must imperatively integrate environmental requirements, particularly in a context where ecological concerns related to extractive industries are highly sensitive in Tunisia.

"China reaffirms its commitment to respecting environmental standards and accompanying Tunisia in a sustainable and responsible industrial development," he added.
