Achieving a Successful HIV/AIDS Response through Partnership between State Institutions and Civil Society

In June 2025, the ATL MST/AIDS organization signed a convention with the Ministry of Health to strengthen response capacities and promote awareness and prevention. "It is the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme in Tunisia) that manages the main grant recipient, particularly in terms of funding," explains Ms. Aïda Mokrani, General Project Coordinator at ATL MST/AIDS.

Thanks to the convention with the Ministry of Health, new horizons are opening up in terms of reinforcing actions that are more oriented towards the needs of the population, as well as in terms of financing. However, despite the continued funding from donors, a potential regression in funding is likely. "We must always have a plan B to guarantee the financing of the association and the sustainability of its interventions. We have five or six associations engaged in the response, which is minimal compared to the national population. We must hold on to continue ensuring our mission," she emphasizes.

This convention takes on the aspect of a social contract, a new vision for coordination and partnership that the association plans to develop by signing other conventions with other ministries. The idea is to multiply action plans and disseminate information as effectively as possible. "People tend to quickly forget what we tell them and what we try to instill in them as preventive reflexes. Therefore, the dissemination of information must be continuous," she notes.

The partnership between state institutions and civil society is crucial in achieving a successful HIV/AIDS response. By working together, organizations like ATL MST/AIDS can strengthen their capacities, promote awareness and prevention, and ultimately reduce the impact of the disease. With the support of the Ministry of Health and other partners, ATL MST/AIDS is well-positioned to continue its mission and make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS.
