Tunisian MP Announces Measures to Facilitate Access to Automobiles for Families

Tunisian MP Maher Kettari, a member of the Finance Committee, announced on Monday that the 2026 finance bill includes measures aimed at making it easier for Tunisian families to purchase automobiles.

Key Provisions of the Bill

The recently amended Article 55 of the bill introduces the possibility for each family to acquire a new car. According to Kettari, "it is not reasonable for an 18-year-old car to cost 21,000 dinars. The new measure will help reduce prices in the local market."

Reduced Prices and Waiting Times

Speaking on Express FM, the MP specified that the prices of popular cars (4 horsepower) and 5-horsepower vehicles will be similar, which should reduce waiting times for benefiting from the popular car program. The goal is to encourage citizens to opt for new vehicles and promote purchases within the organized Tunisian market. Approximately 600,000 cars are imported into the country each year.

Eligibility Criteria

This measure applies to all Tunisian families, provided that the gross income per person does not exceed 10 times the guaranteed minimum wage (approximately 5,000 dinars), and 14 times for couples. It is not limited to civil servants and can be applied in the form of a grant for those who wish to import a car. The law can be adjusted next year after evaluating its impact.

Next Steps

Meanwhile, the Finance Committee is preparing to discuss additional articles proposed by MPs that have not yet been adopted.
