Regulation of Mosque Staff: A New Proposal
The commission for organizational administration, digitization, governance, and anti-corruption will discuss a proposed law presented by MP Syrine Mourabet during the upcoming parliamentary year, which begins in early October. The objective is to establish a fundamental law to regulate the work of mosque staff.
Key Provisions of the Proposal
This proposal, consisting of 12 chapters, defines the functions of the individuals involved:
- The imam-preacher
- The imam of the five prayers
- The muezzin
- The caretaker
- The chief caretaker
- And any other person exercising a function within a mosque under the supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs
Current System Limitations
The authors of the proposal believe that the current system lacks a unified legal framework, failing to guarantee mosque employees their fundamental rights, such as:
- A fixed monthly salary
- Social coverage
- The right to vacations
- Incentive bonuses
Proposed Recruitment Conditions
The proposed law also suggests recruitment conditions, including:
- Level of education
- Specialized training
- Political and partisan neutrality
This proposal aims to address the shortcomings of the current system and provide a more comprehensive and equitable framework for mosque staff.
