Article 50 on Wealth Tax Removed from 2026 Budget Bill

During the plenary session of parliament on Monday, December 1, 2025, Article 50 related to the wealth tax was removed from the 2026 budget bill. The vote resulted in 30 votes for, 14 abstentions, and 69 against, out of a total of 113 deputies present.

The finance committees of the People's Representative Assembly and the Council of Local and Regional Authorities had already announced the removal of this article after a majority vote by their members.

MP Ali Zaghdoud, a supporter of the article, told Diwan FM that the parliamentary group "Let the People Triumph" did not vote in favor of its removal in the finance committee, recalling that his position is based on the principle of fiscal justice. He indicated that the group will propose the article again during the next plenary session, with an adjustment of the planned tax rates.
