Opening Tonight of the 26th Carthage Theatrical Days Let the Magic of Their Creations Begin

26th Edition of the Journées Théâtrales de Carthage (JTC) Festival

From November 20 to 29, the theaters and other spaces in the center of Tunis and beyond will vibrate to the rhythm of performances, debates, and meetings around the 4th art and its current issues. The program includes:

  • 12 pieces in official competition
  • A large selection of out-of-competition performances, including:
    • 15 in the "Théâtre du monde" section
    • 16 Tunisian creations
    • 6 performances in the Arab and African section
    • 6 other amateur theater performances

Opening Night

The opening will be marked by two flagship events:

  • The Egyptian play "Le Roi Lear," directed by Shady Sorour at the Tunis Opera Theater in the City of Culture. Presented in its world premiere, this show marks the great return of the legendary Yahia El-Fakharany, dean of the Arab small and large screens.
  • "(Al) Helm…", the new creation of the unstoppable duo of Tunisian theater, Jalila Baccar and Fadhel Jaïbi, which will be presented on the same evening at the Le Rio hall.

Program Highlights

The program will feature a wide range of performances, including:

  • 12 pieces in official competition
  • 15 performances in the "Théâtre du monde" section
  • 16 Tunisian creations
  • 6 performances in the Arab and African section
  • 6 other amateur theater performances
  • The Theater of Freedom, produced in penitentiary institutions, will present 16 productions
  • 12 performances dedicated to children and young people

New Creations

This 26th edition will accompany the debuts of 5 Tunisian creations:

  • "(Al) Helm…" with Jalila Baccar, Jemal Madani, Mohamed Chaaban, Mounir Khezri, and Mariem Ben Hamida
  • "Sougra", an odyssey towards the dreamed city signed by director Hatem Derbel
  • "Iqamat Shahia" by Abdelaziz Mehrezi
  • "Testostérone" by Syrine Gannoun
  • "Ala Maqam El-Karmel" by the duo Walid and Nawfel Azzara

Tribute to Theater Figures

The festival will pay tribute to several Tunisian theater figures, including Leïla Rezgui, Fethi Akkari, Ali Khemiri, Lazheri Sebii, Slim Sanhaji, and Hedi Boumiiza, as well as artists from Morocco, Oman, and Côte d'Ivoire. Special distinctions will also be awarded to notable careers in the Maghreb and African scene.

International Theater Forum

The International Theater Forum, organized from November 24 to 26, will bring together speakers from ten countries to discuss the theme "The theater artist: their time and their work".

Workshops and Masterclasses

Workshops and masterclasses will be led by renowned creators, including Fadhel Jaïbi, Igor Yatsko, Ali Abdel Nabi Al Zaïdi, and Harold David. A meeting is also planned with French specialist Patrice Pavis.
