Ooredoo Tunisie Celebrates Tunisia's International Recognition for Eradicating Trachoma

Meeting Between Ooredoo Tunisie's CEO and the Tunisian Minister of Health

Today, Eyas Assaf, CEO of Ooredoo Tunisie, accompanied by the company's management team, met with His Excellency, the Tunisian Minister of Health, Dr. Mustapha Ferjani, to congratulate the Ministry on its recent international recognition: the official certification by the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring Tunisia free of trachoma, one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide.

This distinction was awarded in Geneva by the WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in recognition of the continuous efforts made by Tunisian healthcare professionals, field teams, and healthcare institutions across the country over the years.

During this meeting, Ooredoo Tunisie hailed this major national achievement, reflecting Tunisia's historical commitment to prevention, equitable access to healthcare, proximity to healthcare services, and the protection of citizens' dignity.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss future collaboration prospects between Ooredoo Tunisie and the Ministry of Health to support national initiatives with a significant impact in the field of health and digital health.

In this context, Ooredoo Tunisie announced its support for the National Cataract Surgery Initiative, organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Health in partnership with the One Day One Dream (ODOD) association. This national initiative aims to restore sight to impoverished patients suffering from cataract and preventable blindness in several Tunisian governorates.

Through a three-year commitment as part of its social program "Tounes T3ich," Ooredoo Tunisie will support the National Cataract Surgery Initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the ODOD association, with the goal of strengthening access to healthcare, contributing to the fight against preventable blindness, and restoring hope and dignity to vulnerable populations across the country.

On this occasion, Eyas Assaf, CEO of Ooredoo Tunisie, stated: "Ooredoo Tunisie is proud to accompany the Ministry of Health in supporting national health priorities and initiatives that improve the lives of citizens. The recognition of Tunisia by the World Health Organization is a national pride and a tribute to the dedication of Tunisian healthcare professionals. Through our support for the national cataract surgery initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to social inclusion, health equity, and a better future for all Tunisians."

The Minister of Health, Dr. Mustapha Ferjani, welcomed this collaboration and highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting national efforts in healthcare and strengthening access to quality healthcare services across the country.

This meeting marks a new step in the reinforcement of collaboration between Ooredoo Tunisie and the Ministry of Health, around a shared vision based on innovation, inclusion, prevention, and sustainable development of the healthcare sector.
