Freight Train Derails in Métlaoui, Tunisia
A freight train transporting commercial phosphate derailed on Tuesday evening, November 11, 2025, in Métlaoui, near the Thalja mountain tunnels, while traveling from the Kaf Eddour region.
According to initial reports, the main locomotive left the tracks, resulting in the death of the conductor's assistant, who was seriously injured in the accident, and injuring the conductor to varying degrees.
The civil protection units of Métlaoui, supported by teams from the Tunisian National Railway Company (SNCFT), quickly intervened at the scene. The injured conductor was taken to the Métlaoui regional hospital to receive necessary medical attention.
