Agricultural Expert Faouzi Zayani Highlights Strategic Importance of Tunisia's Olive Oil Harvest
Agricultural expert Faouzi Zayani stated today, October 14, 2025, during his appearance on the "Ahla Sabah" show on Mosaïque FM, that Tunisia's national olive oil harvest holds strategic importance on multiple levels this year. He emphasized that Tunisian production will set a record compared to previous years, amidst a global production decline.
Global Deficit Due to Decreased Production in Spain
Zayani explained that international estimates indicate global production will not meet demand, particularly after Spain, the world's largest producer, was affected by climatic factors, leading to a downward revision of its harvest forecasts. According to these figures, global production is expected to reach approximately 2.7 million tons, while consumption exceeds 3 million tons, resulting in a deficit of at least 10 to 12 percent.
Tunisia's Significant Weight in the Global Market
The agricultural expert added that Tunisia will have considerable influence in the global market this season, given that its production could approach 500,000 tons, a volume that would place it second among the largest producers and exporters after Spain. Zayani also stressed that demand for Tunisian oil will be high, not only due to quantity but also due to its high quality, which foreign markets rely on for blending or "coupage" operations to enhance the quality of other oils.
