Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy Released from Prison

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has left prison on Monday afternoon, according to a source close to the case, as reported by the Agence France-Presse (AFP), after the appeals court ordered his release following his conviction in the Libyan financing case of his 2007 presidential campaign.

Sarkozy left the La Santé prison in Paris, where he had been detained for 20 days, in a car with tinted windows, escorted by police motorcyclists.

The Paris Court of Appeal ruled on Monday to approve Sarkozy's release request after twenty days of imprisonment. The court specified that Sarkozy's provisional release will be subject to strict judicial constraints.

Sources revealed to "Sky News" that "Sarkozy will be prohibited from addressing any official from the Ministry of Justice".

Commenting on the decision, one of Sarkozy's lawyers stated that the "next step" is now the "appeal trial".

It is worth noting that Sarkozy's appeal trial is scheduled for 2026.
