Guizhou Province Government Announces Opening of World's Highest Bridge
The government of Guizhou Province, located in southwestern China, has announced that the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, set to become the world's highest bridge, will open to traffic on Sunday, September 28, after completing its construction, which lasted over three years.
Key Features of the Bridge
- The bridge spans 2890 meters with a main span of 1420 meters.
- It stands 625 meters above the river surface, breaking two world records upon its opening: it will be the world's highest bridge and the largest bridge in terms of main span constructed in a mountainous area.
Technological Achievements
The bridge has achieved multiple technological breakthroughs, including its design to withstand wind and construction at a very high altitude. It has obtained 21 approved invention patents, and several of its technical achievements have been incorporated into the national bridge construction standards.
Guizhou Province's Bridge Construction
Guizhou Province has completed or is constructing over 32,000 bridges, including the world's three highest bridges. Approximately half of the world's 100 highest bridges are located in this province, solidifying its position as a leader in bridge construction.
