New Zealand Doctors Forced to Remove Part of Teen's Lung Due to Vaping Addiction
Doctors in New Zealand were compelled to remove a portion of a 17-year-old teenager's lung after he contracted an infection due to his addiction to e-cigarettes.
According to local media, the boy woke up one night complaining of severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. His mother quickly took him to the hospital, where the extent of the damage caused by e-cigarettes to his lungs was discovered.
Upon arrival at the hospital, "Leray King" underwent tests that confirmed he was suffering from a pneumothorax.
What is Pneumothorax?
Pneumothorax occurs when air accumulates in the space between the thoracic wall and the lung, which doctors call the pleural cavity. This causes the lung to shrink or collapse completely or partially.
Over the four months following the incident, the young man experienced a collapse of his left lung four times.
Desperate Measures
In an attempt to limit the damage, doctors performed a series of medical interventions that proved to be ineffective, ultimately forcing them to remove the damaged portion of the lung.
This shocking case highlights the severe risks associated with vaping and the importance of addressing nicotine addiction, particularly among teenagers. The long-term effects of e-cigarette use can be devastating, and it is crucial for individuals, especially young people, to be aware of the potential dangers and take necessary precautions to protect their health.
