Teachers' Union Reaffirms Commitment to Escalation Measures
In a statement released this Thursday, the General Union of Secondary Education reaffirmed its commitment to taking escalation measures to defend union rights and those of educators. The union specified that it will not remain silent in the face of the exclusion and contempt policy of the Ministries of Education and Youth and Sports, holding the two ministries "fully responsible for the climate of tension and disruption of the school year".
The union emphasized that "imposing a serious dialogue is no longer an option, but an irreversible militant duty". In this regard, it calls on all teachers and their union structures to implement the decisions of the sector's board of directors: actively participating in regional protest rallies, categorically refusing overtime, and boycotting discussions on the appointment of directors and principals, as they contravene existing agreements.
The union denounced the persistent refusal of the Ministries of Education and Youth and Sports to open a serious and responsible negotiation, as well as their attacks on union rights and their contempt for agreements and acquired rights. This attitude is perceived as an attempt to unilaterally impose decisions and undermine the principle of dialogue and partnership, as well as the sectoral gains achieved by generations of militants over the decades.
