Esperance Sportive de Tunis Rises to Third Place in CAF's Five-Year Club Ranking
The Esperance Sportive de Tunis has secured the third spot in the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) updated five-year club ranking, following the Mamelodi Sundowns' championship win in the CAF Champions League on Sunday night.
The CAF ranking is now dominated by the Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa with a total of 73 points. They lead the Egyptian club Al Ahly, which comes in second with 66 points, while the Esperance Sportive de Tunis completes the continental podium with 58 points.
According to the CAF, this cumulative ranking, based on the performance of clubs over the past five years, holds significant importance as it may serve as a reference in determining the teams qualified for the 2029 Club World Cup.
Regarding the qualifications already secured for the next edition of the Club World Cup, two teams have already validated their spots: Pyramids FC (Egypt), the winner of the CAF Champions League 2025, and the Mamelodi Sundowns, who were crowned champions in 2026. The two remaining places are still open and subject to the outcome of the ongoing continental competitions.
