Recent Study Reveals Young Tunisians' Reliance on Internet for Health and Sexual Rights Information

A recent study conducted by the Tawhida Ben Cheikh group among a sample of 5,000 young people aged 18 to 29 in several governorates reveals that 48% of young Tunisians inform themselves about their health, as well as their sexual and reproductive rights, on the internet.

Speaking to the TAP agency on the sidelines of a training workshop held on Tuesday in Siliana, Hajer Nasser, a member of the group, indicated that about half of the young people turn to the internet to obtain this information, "even if it may be incorrect." She emphasized the low level of awareness on the matter, considering it necessary to intensify information actions in the regions and remind young people of their right to reliable information, physical integrity, and free choice regarding their bodies.

For her part, Neïla Zoghlami, representative of the Front for Equality and Women's Rights, explained that sexual and physical rights differ from sexual and reproductive health, stressing that rights are indivisible and include access to a dignified life, quality health, and recourse to justice, as stipulated in international conventions.

Meanwhile, Salma Hajri, an endocrinologist-diabetologist specializing in sexual and reproductive health, affirmed that women's rights remain threatened worldwide, calling for a change in mentality, particularly regarding the right to abortion.
