Tunisian Diaspora Remittances Rise 6.7% in the First Two Months of 2026

Tunis, 13 March 2026 – Financial transfers from Tunisians living abroad increased by 6.7 % during the first two months of 2026, reaching 1 467.7 million Tunisian dinars between 1 January and 28 February. This compares with 1 375.5 million dinars recorded over the same period in 2025, according to a press release issued Thursday by the Office of Tunisians Abroad (OTE).

The figures, drawn from the official statistics of the Central Bank of Tunisia, confirm the positive momentum of diaspora remittances, which remain one of the country’s main sources of foreign‑currency inflows.

Growing Role of the Tunisian Diaspora

The release highlights that the upward trend underscores the increasingly vital role of Tunisians settled overseas in supporting the national economy through regular financial contributions. Remittances from the diaspora are a key lever for bolstering foreign‑exchange reserves and maintaining Tunisia’s macro‑economic balance.

Beyond strengthening foreign‑exchange reserves, these financial flows also stimulate domestic economic activity. They inject liquidity into the financial system, support household consumption, and energize internal markets.

Strategic Economic Partner

In a context marked by fiscal challenges and the need to consolidate budgetary and monetary equilibria, the remittances of Tunisians abroad constitute an essential resource for the Tunisian economy.

Tunisian authorities therefore view the diaspora as a strategic economic partner whose contribution goes far beyond monetary transfers. The diaspora also drives investment, skill transfer, and the deepening of economic ties with host countries.
