Tabarka Prepares for Major Tourist Boom with Ambitious Projects
Tabarka is set to experience a significant tourist boom thanks to several ambitious projects currently underway.
Key Projects and Investments
A flagship project, with a total cost of 230 million dinars, includes the construction of a five-star hotel and several other tourist establishments. The cost of investments planned under the 2026-2030 plan amounts to 800 million dinars. These funds will be mobilized for the realization of three new five-star hotel units, as well as the development of eleven tourist areas in Aïn Draham, which will be distinguished by their ecological and environmental characteristics.
Development of Tourist Zones
The Tourism Land Agency (AFT) will develop Ouled Hlel, a zone located in the Northwest, between Fernana and Aïn Draham, which benefits from a strategic location due to its proximity to the future highway between Bousalem and Hammam Bourguiba and the respective El Mrij and Hammam Bourguiba sports and tourist complexes. The objective is to enable new promoters to create tourist and leisure spaces in the immediate vicinity of future hotel units on an area of 52 hectares.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
These investments are expected to have a crucial impact on the development and economic dynamics of the region, on job creation, and on improving the accommodation capacity (nights). Currently limited to 5,000 beds, the hotel capacity will be significantly increased. These efforts also aim to relaunch the activity of the Tabarka-Aïn Draham international airport and diversify the tourist markets, which are currently limited to the domestic and Algerian markets.
Airport Development
Regarding the airport, which currently only receives one flight per week from Poland, strong growth is expected: the objective for 2026 is to receive between three and four flights per week from European countries.
