National Electricity Production Sees 4% Increase
The national electricity production has recorded a 4% increase as of the end of July 2025, reaching 11,631 GWh (including renewable autoproduction), while production for the local market has risen by 2%. This is according to the energy situation report published on September 12, 2025, by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines.
Notably, the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) still holds the largest share of electricity production, with 95% of the national production. Electricity produced from natural gas has evolved by 4%.
The Department of Industry also announced that electricity production from renewable energies has reached 6%, recalling that approximately 350 MW of photovoltaic roofs were installed by the end of 2024 in the residential sector, and 323 authorizations were granted for a total power of 50 MW on medium and high voltage in the industrial, tertiary, and agricultural sectors.
It is worth highlighting that electricity purchases, mainly from Algeria, covered 11% of the local market's needs as of the end of July 2025.
Regarding electricity sales, they have recorded a slight increase of 1% during the first seven months of 2025. Sales to high-voltage customers have progressed by 22%, while sales to medium-voltage customers have remained relatively stable.
Industrial consumers remain the largest consumers of electricity, accounting for 58% of the total demand from high-voltage and medium-voltage customers (HT&MT).
