National Individual Composting Program Achieves Significant Results
The national individual composting program, launched in 2013, has led to the signing of over 40 partnership agreements and generated an estimated annual production of approximately 150 tons of domestic compost.
These figures were revealed during the national conference on the valorization of organic waste, held under the banner: "Valorize your waste... improve your life."
In parallel, the physical composting program, initiated in 2024, has contributed to the creation of pilot stations for the valorization of green waste and municipal market waste.
This program has enabled the production of approximately 500 tons of compost during the 2025 year, while strengthening the capacities of municipalities in terms of training and technical and biological follow-up.
The conference, organized yesterday in Sousse by the National Agency for Waste Management (ANGed) in collaboration with the Technical Center for Organic Agriculture, was dedicated to supporting and generalizing composting experiences. Composting is considered one of the major sustainable solutions for the valorization of organic waste, which represents approximately 60% of household waste.
This approach contributes to reducing landfilling in controlled landfills and optimizing the exploitation of natural resources.
It is worth noting that, as part of the sharing of expertise, several successful models were presented, including the experience of the municipality of El Aïn in Sfax with its pilot composting station, as well as that of the municipality of Sousse concerning the valorization of green waste and the remains of fruits and vegetables from the wholesale market in the region.
