National Archives of Tunisia Receive 127 Donations of Documents and Archives
The Director General of the National Archives of Tunisia, Hédi Jellab, announced that the institution has received 127 donations of documents and archives from national figures, associations, and various organizations up to this year. During his intervention on National Radio, Mr. Jellab explained that the National Archives apply a precise mechanism for inventorying and classifying donated archives, with the creation of special wings ensuring their conservation.
Key Objectives
The Director General emphasized the National Archives' determination to recover all documents related to Tunisia's history and make them available to researchers, academics, and all citizens, thereby contributing to the preservation of national memory. Mr. Jellab recalled that several donors of private archives to the National Archives were honored this year, including:
- Mohamed El Mazri Ben Youssef, founder of the newspaper "Tunis Hebdo", who donated the entire collection of the newspaper from its creation to the present day.
- Taoufik Jebali, who donated all the archives of the cultural space El Teatro since its creation.
- The family of the late Zeineb Farhat, who donated all the archives collected by the deceased during her artistic experience.
- The family of the late Mokhtar Arbaoui, who donated the deceased's library.
- The Tunisian Association of Winners of Academic Palms, which donated the entire archives of the association since its founding.
- The Tunisian Federation of Film Clubs, which donated a significant part of the federation's archives.
Digitalization Efforts
The number of digitized documents at the National Archives has reached 2.5 million documents, representing approximately 20% of the documents preserved by the institution.
