Tunisia Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Palestinian People on Nakba Anniversary
May 15, 2024
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, commemorated on May 15 every year, Tunisia has reaffirmed its unconditional support for the Palestinian people in their defense of their inalienable rights, emphasizing that these rights cannot be prescribed by time.
In a statement released on Friday evening by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Tunisia reiterated its constant position in favor of the Palestinian people, their right to self-determination, and their struggle for the complete recovery of their historical and legitimate rights, as well as the establishment of their state on the entire Palestinian territory with Al-Quds as its capital.
Tunisia also renewed its tribute to the Palestinian people's resistance and resilience, which, according to the statement, faces "the arrogance and brutality of the occupation and its military arsenal" in a context marked by "the disturbing silence of the international community." The statement highlights that the Palestinian people continue to write "a new historical epic" in their struggle to recover their lands and legitimate rights.
The Ministry recalled that Palestine is recognized as a state by international law and nearly 150 countries, estimating that it is now time to grant it the status of a full member of the United Nations without further delay.
Tunisia also mentioned the continuation of ceasefire violations in the Gaza Strip by the occupying authorities, condemning the closure of crossing points, the blockade of humanitarian aid, and the restrictions imposed on the movement of people, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
The statement denounces the continuation of Zionist policies in the occupied West Bank, including the adoption of laws qualified as racist, such as the one related to the execution of Palestinian prisoners, as well as the policies of annexation of Palestinian lands and the expansion of settlements, in blatant violation of international law and existing conventions.
