Meeting Between Mohamed Ali Nafti and Hanna Tetteh to Discuss Libyan Political Process

Tunis, November 28, 2025

Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, received Hanna Tetteh, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), on the morning of November 28, 2025. The meeting aimed to discuss the latest developments in the Libyan political process and ways to support efforts to revive it.

During the meeting, Minister Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia's unwavering commitment to supporting the United Nations' efforts to promote the political process in Libya. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive and lasting political solution based on Libya's full sovereignty, under the auspices of the United Nations. This solution should preserve Libya's sovereignty and territorial unity, putting an end to any form of external interference in its internal affairs.

Minister Nafti praised the efforts of UNSMIL to relaunch the United Nations' roadmap, particularly by initiating a "structured dialogue" as a fundamental step in its implementation. This dialogue relies on digital mechanisms and interactive platforms, including those for young people, to ensure broad and effective participation in the political process. He stressed that the involvement of young people and civil society remains essential to the success of any reform or electoral process.

The Minister reaffirmed Tunisia's constant commitment to the tripartite consultation mechanism with neighboring countries, which he considers an effective framework for coordination and constructive dialogue between brotherly countries. This mechanism aims to unify visions and strengthen support for the Libyan political process, ensuring the complementarity of international and regional efforts to achieve a comprehensive and lasting political solution. This solution should preserve Libya's unity and sovereignty, respond to the Libyan people's aspirations for security, stability, and development, and be free from external interference.

For her part, Hanna Tetteh expressed her deep gratitude for Tunisia's constant support for the United Nations' action in Libya. She praised Tunisia's balanced and constructive position, as well as its important role in promoting dialogue and consensus among Libyan parties. Tetteh also reaffirmed her commitment to continuing coordination with Tunisia and various regional and international partners to progress in implementing the United Nations' roadmap and strengthening efforts to achieve the desired political settlement. This settlement should respond to the aspirations of the Libyan people and contribute to supporting the pillars of security and stability in the region.
