Tunisia Reaffirms Commitment to Non-Aligned Movement Principles

On the occasion of his participation in the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, delivered Tunisia's speech during the opening session chaired by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on October 15, 2025. In his address, the Minister emphasized the importance of developing a common vision to strengthen solidarity among Movement countries, reaffirming Tunisia's attachment to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement and its commitment to its activities, seventy years after the Bandung Conference (1955) and the Belgrade Conference (1961).

Tunisia's Vision for Addressing Global Challenges

The Minister highlighted Tunisia's vision for addressing the political, economic, and development challenges facing Movement countries, a vision based essentially on:

  • Strengthening South-South cooperation
  • Establishing fair relations within the framework of North-South cooperation
  • Reviewing the global financial system according to a new, fair, and comprehensive approach He also welcomed the call made by His Excellency President Kais Saied during his participation in the "Paris Summit for a New Financial Pact" in June 2023, in favor of:
  • Strengthening good governance
  • Combating corruption
  • Pursuing the implementation of the Addis Ababa Program for Development Financing
  • Respecting the financial commitments of developed countries
  • Restoring looted funds
  • Adopting a collective and comprehensive approach to migration issues, focusing on addressing the root causes of irregular migration

Commitment to International Humanitarian Law and Migration

In this regard, he reaffirmed Tunisia's total commitment to international humanitarian law, the protection of migrants' rights, and ensuring their voluntary return to their countries of origin, while emphasizing the essential role of culture as a driver of close human and social ties between member states.

Support for the Palestinian People

The Minister reiterated Tunisia's principled, firm, and constant position in support of the Palestinian people's struggle for their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state, fully sovereign, on the entire territory of Palestine, with Al Qods Al Sharif as its capital.

Welcoming International Efforts for Peace in Gaza

He also welcomed Arab and international efforts that led to the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, after two years of systematic genocide crimes that caused an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. He expressed hope that this agreement would be durable, while emphasizing that this ceasefire should not obscure the international community's responsibility in pursuing those responsible for the occupying entity's crimes of genocide and collective persecution, and in categorically rejecting any attempt to displace the Palestinian people from their land or liquidate their just cause.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Minister reaffirmed Tunisia's attachment – as an Arab, Muslim, African, and Mediterranean country – to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as its call to modernize the Movement's working methods and mechanisms to respond to the challenges of the era and strengthen its position within the multilateral system.
