Tunisia to Participate in the 48th Session of the African Union Executive Council and the 39th Session of the African Union Summit
On the instructions of His Excellency President Kais Saied, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, will lead the Tunisian delegation participating in the 48th session of the African Union Executive Council, to be held on February 11 and 12, 2026, as well as the 39th session of the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2026, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. On this occasion, the theme of the African Union for the year 2026 will be launched: "Ensuring sustainable access to water for the realization of the African Union's Agenda 2063".
Minister Nafti will also represent Tunisia at the second Italy-Africa Summit, to be held on February 13, 2026, in Addis Ababa, and will examine several issues related to Italian-African partnership.
The 39th session of the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government will discuss a set of major political, economic, and security issues concerning African common action on the continent and its future, including the project to reform the African Union's institutions, the situation of peace and security on the continent, the reform of the United Nations Security Council, as well as the African Union's participation in the Group of Twenty (G20).
The Summit will also be marked by the election of new members of the African Union's Peace and Security Council, in addition to examining the challenges related to economic and social development, strengthening continental integration, and supporting processes of recovery and inclusive development, with a view to strengthening continental solidarity, security, stability, and sustainable development.
Tunisia's participation in the work of this Summit will provide an opportunity to reaffirm the country's commitment to the African dimension that characterizes its foreign policy, as well as its active involvement in African common action within the framework of the African Union, and to strengthen its contribution to efforts to consolidate peace and security and promote sustainable development and fruitful cooperation between the countries of the continent.
It will also be an opportunity to renew Tunisia's positions on certain issues on the agenda of the Summit, including the just Palestinian cause.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Minister Nafti will hold bilateral meetings with African Union officials, including the leaders of the African Union Commission, as well as with representatives of several regional and international organizations and major economic groups, to examine ways to strengthen cooperation between Tunisia and the African Union and its various structures, and to follow up on several files of interest to our country. He will also meet with his African and foreign counterparts to support and develop bilateral cooperation relations, as well as to strengthen coordination and consultation at the multilateral level on regional and international issues of common interest.
