Grape Harvest in Nabeul Governorate Reaches 85%

The grape harvest in the Nabeul governorate, one of the country's most important wine-producing regions, has progressed to 85% as of Monday, after the campaign was launched on August 13, according to Chokri Bouziri, president of the Local Union of Agriculture and Fishing in Grombalia, in a statement to the TAP agency.

Production Forecasts

Forecasts indicate a production of 17,000 tons, compared to 25,000 tons in the previous season, representing a decline of 25 to 30%. This decline is attributed to the reduction of planted areas, a consequence of climate change and persistent drought in recent years, despite abundant rainfall during the previous agricultural campaign.

Regional Production

In Grombalia, the areas dedicated to grape production do not exceed 1,000 hectares but contribute 50% to regional production, with around 8,000 tons. No difficulties have been reported in terms of marketing, but farmers still face major challenges: a lack of irrigation water and soaring production costs due to the increase in fertilizer and phytosanitary product prices.

Support for Winegrowers

Chokri Bouziri called for support for winegrowers to renew aging plantations and strengthen this strategic sector, which is vital for employment and exports. The Nabeul governorate alone accounts for nearly 70% of the national grape production, with around 3,000 producers mainly located in the delegations of Grombalia, Bou Argoub, Takelsa, and Korba.
