National Sanitary Security Institute for Food Products (INSSA) Seizes Over 1,000 Pastries in Nabeul
The National Sanitary Security Institute for Food Products (INSSA) has seized approximately 1,000 ready-to-decorate pastries stored in non-compliant conditions in Nabeul. This operation is part of a national reinforced control program launched as the end of the administrative year approaches.
According to INSSA President, Mohamed Rabhi, the campaign targets pastry shops, confectioneries, dried fruits, poultry processing and storage units, large commercial surfaces, and tourist restaurants. "The goal is to verify strict compliance with sanitary standards, the absence of unauthorized food colorings or additives, and the proper application of the cold chain and labeling," he added during his appearance on Express Fm on Monday, December 8.
In total, the campaign has resulted in the seizure of over 10 tons of food products unfit for consumption in several governorates:
- Nabeul: approximately 1,000 pastries and 4 tons of non-compliant food products.
- Sfax: 3 tons of unfit poultry and red meat.
- Ben Arous: over 2 tons of poultry meat stored in poor conditions.
- Béja: over 1 ton of frozen beef liver transported in inappropriate conditions.
Rabhi also reminded that all offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the law, and the seized products will be destroyed. He further called on all economic operators in the food sector to strictly respect sanitary standards, stating that INSSA will continue its controls to protect consumer health.
