Sanitary Control Operations in Nabeul Governorate Result in Seizure and Destruction of Food Products

Sanitary control operations conducted in the Nabeul governorate have led to the seizure and destruction of 6.6 tons of food products and 5,609 liters of liquids unfit for consumption, in addition to the closure of six public establishments for non-compliance with hygiene requirements.

These interventions were carried out by the regional office of the National Institute for Sanitary Security of Food Products (INSSPA) in Nabeul, in coordination with the regional directorate of commerce and security services in the region, as part of the preparations for the month of Ramadan.

The operations were conducted over 252 control operations carried out since the beginning of January until Saturday, according to the regional coordinator of INSSPA, Chiraz Najar. She specified that the seized food products consisted of:

  • 84% spices and seasonings
  • 7% red, white, and processed meats
  • Quantities of potatoes, industrial harissa, pastries, and cheeses

The destroyed liquids consisted of:

  • 67.7% milk
  • 32% soft drinks and bottled water

These products were seized because they were considered "likely to endanger consumer health" and were found in disorganized storage facilities.

The control operations also resulted in:

  • 19 warnings
  • 8 reports
  • 13 sample collections for laboratory analysis

As Ramadan approaches, a period of high consumption, the authorities emphasize the importance of intensifying surveillance to ensure the health, quality, and authenticity of products and to prevent any form of fraud.

In this context, the regional directorate of commerce has implemented a specific program, which has been operational for a month. The inspections targeted businesses, processing units, warehouses, and storage points in the Cap Bon region, with a particular focus on equipment, cold chains, transformation and storage conditions, as well as compliance with hygiene standards and technical requirements.

These operations will continue before and during the month of Ramadan to prevent health offenses, ensure product compliance, and protect consumer health, in coordination with all concerned parties.
