Olive Harvesting Operations Reach 20% Completion Rate in Nabeul Governorate
Olive harvesting operations have reached a 20% completion rate in the Nabeul governorate, where the harvest is estimated to be around 90,000 tons, compared to 61,000 tons the previous year, representing an increase of approximately 30%. This was announced by Imed El-Bey, President of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fishing in Nabeul.
According to El-Bey, who spoke to the TAP Agency, the 46 operational oil mills this season (out of a total of 53 units in the region) are under significant pressure. This forces farmers to wait their turn to process their production, which can take up to two weeks.
In this regard, the same source called on farmers to slow down olive harvesting operations in order to reduce pressure on the oil mills and preserve the harvest. El-Bey reminded that the lack of labor remains one of the major problems faced by farmers during the olive harvest season.
In the Nabeul governorate, olive groves cover an area of approximately 39,307 hectares, which represents 62% of the total area dedicated to fruit trees in the region.
