Nabeul-Hammamet Regional Tourism Delegation Organizes Exploratory Visit to "La Route du Bigaradier" Ecotourism Circuit
The Nabeul-Hammamet regional tourism delegation organized an exploratory visit to the "La Route du Bigaradier" ecotourism circuit on Saturday, a innovative project that highlights the bitter orange tree and the traditions of orange blossom distillation in Nabeul.
Partnership and Realization
In partnership with the Regional Federation of Travel Agencies, the PAMPAT program, the Nabeul City Preservation Association, and the Regional Delegation of Handicrafts, this circuit is now at an advanced stage of realization and is expected to be launched in December 2025.
Immersion in the World of Bitter Orange
The visit began in a bitter orange grove, followed by a stop at Dar Nabeul, the headquarters of the Nabeul City Preservation Association, where participants attended a traditional orange blossom water distillation workshop. They also discovered an industrial distillation unit and a space dedicated to the valorization of bitter orange derivatives in the field of cosmetics. Several journalists, tourism stakeholders, students, and trainees from the Nabeul Tourism Training Center participated in this day.
Enhancing Ancestral Know-How
The Regional Tourism Delegate, Wahid Ben Faraj, emphasized that this project aims to promote the traditions related to the harvesting and transformation of orange blossoms, from picking in the fields to extracting neroli oil, prized by major perfume houses around the world. The creation of this circuit will contribute to diversifying Nabeul's tourist offer, attracting travelers seeking sustainable tourism and authentic experiences around local natural and cultural heritage.
International Support
The project benefits from the support of the PAMPAT program, funded by Swiss cooperation and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). In Nabeul, as in Kairouan, this program supports the promotion of local products such as harissa, orange blossom water, and Bouargoub's Barbary figs. Expert Khamis Ennassfi, PAMPAT project coordinator in Nabeul, explained that this circuit will allow visitors to experience a unique experience: "From harvesting in the orchard to the market, through traditional distillation at Dar Nabeul and industrial extraction of neroli oil, destined for export to international markets."
