Major Fire Hits Erfoud Date Market
A major fire swept through the date market in the city of Erfoud, located in the province of Er-Rachidia, this morning, causing significant material losses for merchants, but no casualties.
According to the Moroccan daily Hespress, citing local sources, the fire broke out suddenly in the shops of the central market, and the causes of the fire remain unknown for the time being.
The civil protection services intervened quickly and, with the help of local authorities, the national police, and residents, managed to bring the flames under control before they spread to neighboring businesses.
No injuries or human casualties were reported. The material damage, however, has not yet been fully assessed.
The judicial authorities of Erfoud, under the direction of the competent prosecutor's office, have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the fire, which is a significant blow to the merchants of the date market, essential to the local economy.
