Heavy Rains and Flash Floods Kill at Least 21 and Injure 32 in Morocco's Coastal Province of Safi
Local authorities announced on Sunday, in a statement, that heavy rains and flash floods have caused the deaths of at least 21 people and injured 32 others in the coastal province of Safi, Morocco.
The floods were triggered by violent storms that hit the province for about an hour, submerging dozens of homes and businesses, according to the statement.
Preliminary information from the official news agency MAP reported that around 70 houses and shops in the city of Safi were flooded, while ten vehicles were swept away by the torrents. The floods also damaged roads, causing widespread disruptions to traffic.
Efforts were ongoing to search for missing persons and restore road access as well as public services throughout the province, according to local authorities.
