Crackdown on Market Manipulation: Over 20 Arrests Made
A new campaign led by the Sub-Directorate of Economic and Financial Investigations of the Gorjani Judicial Police Directorate, in coordination with the municipal police services and the economic control services of the Ministry of Commerce, has resulted in the arrest of over 20 sales agents (known as "habbata") and market suppliers.
According to available information, agents and officials from the Sub-Directorate of Economic and Financial Investigations of Gorjani conducted a nationwide campaign at dawn on Friday to combat speculation, monopolies, and price manipulation in markets. The operation targeted wholesale markets in Bir El Kasaa, Bizerte, Moknine, Sfax, and Sousse.
This second campaign led to the arrest of over 20 sales agents, known as "habbata," as well as intermediaries operating in wholesale markets. After consulting with the public prosecutor's office of the competent courts, it was decided to detain them for further investigation. They will be referred to the prosecutor's office next week, which will rule on their fate based on the results of the investigations.
