Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Welcomes New ILO Representative for the Maghreb Region
Tunis, 1 September 2025 – Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, received Halim Hamzaoui on Monday. Hamzaoui presented his credentials as Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Mauritania.
During the meeting, the minister praised the long‑standing, privileged cooperation that links Tunisia to the ILO since the country’s accession at the dawn of independence. He highlighted the remarkable evolution of joint programmes over the past seven decades.
Nafti underscored the ILO Office’s role in supporting national priorities and ongoing reforms, especially through the implementation of the National Employment Strategy 2020‑2030. He stressed the need to give particular attention to:
- Youth and women’s employment
- Skills development and vocational training
- Occupational health and safety
The minister also recalled Tunisia’s February 2024 accession to the Global Coalition for Social Justice, reaffirming the country’s commitment to actively contribute to the coalition’s objectives.
For his part, Halim Hamzaoui expressed appreciation for the high level of cooperation with Tunisia and pledged to further strengthen the partnership in order to promote social justice, social peace and sustainable development across Tunisia and the wider Maghreb region.
