Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti Participates in Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers
Foreign Minister, in charge of Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, participated on Friday in the annual coordination meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, he reaffirmed Tunisia's firm and constant position in support of the resilient Palestinian people in defending their legitimate and inalienable rights to establish an independent and sovereign state on the entirety of their historical territories with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In his statement, he also emphasized that the Palestinian cause, being one of the fundamental Islamic issues, is going through a crucial historical phase that will inevitably be crowned with a certain victory, thanks to the support and backing of the unified Islamic voice that has placed it at the top of the priorities of the UN organization on the 80th anniversary of its founding.
Mr. Nafti called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to fully assume its moral and legal responsibility in the face of the deterioration of international peace and security. This deterioration is caused by the repeated violations of international law and the UN Charter by the occupying entity, without any deterrence or sanctions being applied. He reiterated Tunisia's call for firm and effective international action to hold this entity accountable and prevent the collapse of the entire international order.
He also warned against the rise of extremist currents in several regions of the world, proposing close coordination between the OIC's Permanent Missions in New York, Geneva, and Brussels. The goal would be to convey the true image of Islam and Muslims to the various structural levels, as well as to the entire international civil society and global academic institutions.
Finally, he called for the development of dialogue mechanisms as a means of mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence between nations and peoples, praising the importance of the UN Alliance of Civilizations mechanism, which Tunisia has joined.
